Hi, I have a copy of office XP and would like to put it on my shiny new Vista Laptop. Does anyone know if office XP will work on Vista? I like office XP and would rather not upgrade to Office 2007.

go for it as in "be the first one here to try it and hope it works" or go for it as in "go for it because your worrying for no reason and it will work"

Excuse me but Office XP may not be compatible with VISTA, you will find that Installer does not function and Microsoft will not support Office XP under Vista. You may get it to install but it may be buggy in particular if you use Office Outlook for email. Microsoft has dropped support for Office XP. Some foilks have been able to get it to work, but many have not.
If you are going to try then I would suggest the following:
1. Install all High-Priority updates from Microsoft Update
2. Download and install the Compatibility Pack. By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

I have Office 2000 Professional installed on Vista Home Premium and it hasn't had a problem. I did not install Outlook. Of course, Office XP may be a whole different animal. ;)

As I said, it may work and install as many folks like yourself have it working, but if you try to use Outllok mail you got problems. I personnaly don't use Office xp (Use Office 2003), but everything that I have read and talked about in news groups, it is iffy at best with Outlook. If the member does not plan to use Outlook mail then probably will run fine as you said.
With Office 2003 I installed the compat pack and it works great and can use files made with Office 2007, as we have Office 2007 at work.

I have installed Office XP Pro onto Vista Home 32 basic with no probs. I've also followed instructions here and installed compatibility pack just in case.
