my lite on dvd drive went missing from my comp.tried uninstalling and re-installing,searching net for driver,says correct driver allready installed.clicked on drive in device manager,says windows cant load,driver may be corrupt or missing,code 39.removed drive and installed new SONY DRU-820A,started comp,checked that drive detected in bios.ok.comp tried to load new device driver which it wasnt able to do.same code 39 error message.tried previous procedure of uninstalling and re-installing with no luck.i am out of ideas here,can anyone help.vista home premium.thanks.

Hi ridgy, what make and model computer do you have?

hi AnnMarie,no specific brandbut it has a gigabyte m/b,2g ram,pentium 4 lga775 processor,250g sata h/d,leadtek7600 graphics,450w power sup.by now.

It's a controller problem,

Look in Device Manager under 'Storage Controllers'. Should be two listed there; 1 Gigabyte and 1 Microsoft... Uninstall the Gigabyte one - and tick the Delete driver option in the confirm box. Then go to your DVD/CD-Rom Drives and uninstall the entry for your CD/DVD drive also . Then immediately restart Vista. On restart all drivers should then be reinstalled correctly and you need to do another restart.
