I have just recently recieved DSL internet. We pluged the main line into a router and my brothers and mothers computer automaticly found the network, changed ips to 192.168.0.x and have access to the internet. My computer on the other hand does not recieve anything. The default gateway that shows up on their computers is 192.168.0.1, with ips of 192.168.0.{2 for moms or 3 for brothers.} For them, this was a plug and go operation.

I have been using this same LAN port to play games such as UT2004, AoE 3, COD and a few others with out glich. I have not been able to play any EA games at all becasue im not able to start or join a server. I have been able to reach a wireless network when i lug my computer to my uncles, but i dont have space on my MB for now, and a wireless router is expesive.

I am running:
Asus A8n32-SLI (non wireless), which has 2 LAN ports, Marvel Yukon and nForce
2 7900 gt's
Windows XP Pro SP2 (no recent updates due to lack of modem space)
Creative X-Fi Platnium
2 120 gig WD1200jds-sata2 raid0
1 120 gig wd1200wd- sata2
AMD FX-55
I do have (mostly) up to date drivers, i have the most recent nForce drivers directly from nVidia, also i have up-to-date video dirves and i will be installing the newest sound in a few minuets. My bios is also up-to-date.

I have tryed to set the IP and default gateways manualy without avail. I have tried network wizard many times on both ports with no luck. I have many services disabled for a long time as my compter was strictly for gaming and all i needed was the ablity to start and run a lan server. I did try turning on all services that mentioned either networks or internet but this did not solve the problem. I also enabled all the startup services in the msconfig menu, but all this did was bring back an old startup crawl problem. After i tryed to set the ip etc. manualy i kept getting a message that said Limited or no connectivity and would not repair becuase of the inablity to renew the ip.

I would greatfully appretiate any help with my delema, and if there was something i forgot to add let me know. I tryed to fix this for 2 hours last night and all i got was mad, so im begging you to make me look stupid!:rotflmao:

What router do you have?
What IP do you get when you have your settings on automatic?

If you think it is a problem with your services then you could boot into a clean OS using Knoppix or BartPE.
If your network ports and cable are ok then you should be automatically connected.
If not then you may have a dodgy cable or broken ports.

With settings on auto i get a 169.x.x.x
A bit of an update, i can see my moms computer via network places now and i do get a responce from a command promt "ping" command, im absolutely sure the ping works to and from both computers, as i checked packet info before and after. I set my services back to XP Pro default, and i think that enabled me to see my moms computer. I have been trying the cable that hooked up my brothers computer so i know the cable is good. I am using a LinkSys EtherFast 10/100 as a router.
The only way i get my moms shared documetns is when i have a forced IP address. But I do not get a responce when i ping the modem at 192.168.0.1, even though i do get a responce form my moms computer at 192.168.0.2. Currently i am using a forced 192.168.0.4 as my ip.
EDIT:
When i ping the modem i dont show any packes sent over the network but when i ping my moms compter it does show packest sent and recieved. Also, when i do an auto assign of the ip, i dont show an "Assigned by DHCP" message like my moms computer does.

If you are getting a 169 address it means there is a problem and you are not getting and assigned IP from DHCP.

You could try resetting the router then rebooting to see if you can get connected.

Yes, i read that i would get an 169.254.x.x if the computer could not find the router. I went to the Microsoft site and searched through the articles and one said that if you reset the ips, and then try a /renew it should fix it, but if you got an error there was most likely a bad TCP/IP install. So this morning i tryed using just the micrsoft tcp/ip 6 but the network does not work at all, or even see the cable. So at this point im thinking my only hope is a windows repair, or reload, unless i can reinstall the IPC/IP stack, which i am trying to find how to do as i type.

I did try that and i was still not getting the modem, so i backed up my documents and my harddrive is formating. Thanks for the help and ill tell you if the reload fixes it, if not i guess i need another NIC.
