describe what you mean by not playing properly - be specific including any error messages. Also tell a little about your system, cpu, ram, harddrive size/free space available. What media player do you use to play your dvd's

I get an error message on my computer when I try to play a DVD. If I use WMPlayer, I get "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection"
Error ID=00xC00D1163
If I use MediaMatics i get "There is a problem with the copy protection system withing the DVD-ROM drive. Playback cannon continue. Press OK to close the Player".

i have an HP Omnibook XE3, with a Pentium III processor, 693 MHz, 256 MB RAM. running xp Pro with service pack 2. the dvd drive is a toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2002. i can play cd's no problem, and non copyrighted dvd's. the regions are correct. on my hard drive, i have 12.1 GB of 18.3 GB free. i use WMP to play, but have mediamatics installed, as well as DirectDVD.

thanks!

If you're after a free decoder, then K-Lite Codec pack is very good. You can download it from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

Also, have a look at this Microsoft "Knowledge Base" Support article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283620/en-us
It sounds exactly like the problem that you describe.

I hope this helps!
