I downloaded this programe some time ago, now every time I switch my computer on, it brings up a small window so that I can log onto messenger if I want to. Well I don't want to get rid of this program because I do use it now and again. However I don't want this little screen to come up every time I put my computer on, so how do I stop it launching this screen but still have access to this program should I want to use it?

Welcome to CTH

In the window where you sign in, there is a box that you can uncheck - Sign me in automatically or something like that.
Then when you want to use it click on the icon by your clock and then sign in.

Also, in Tools/Options/General - uncheck the relevant boxes. [see the top three?]

As you say you downloaded MSN "some time ago"... you could also maybe upgrade to Windows Live Messenger.

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

This box is allready unchecked, I don't think I explained what is happening very well. It is not that I am automatically signed into msn messenger, it is just anoying that every time I start up my computer the MSM Messenger window always appears and I have to click the white X with a red background cross at the top of the messenger window to get rid of it.

Sorry, I added something above - did you try that yet?
It could be slightly different as I'm looking at Live Messenger...

It's the top box on mine.

Tried this as well and unfortunately that doesn't work either.

Do you mean the sign in window or the msn home page?

Have you tried going to start/run/type in msconfig and uncheck the MSN boxes in the startup list.

Hi xrosswind,

From the sign-in window, go to Tools > Options. Then click the 'General' tab and you get some checkbox options. The first one starts the program in your system tray (next to the clock), the second actually opens the window on your desktop.

If you only use it occasionally I'd uncheck them both and just start the program from the Start menu when you need it.

Hope that helps
