Hi, I am thinking about buying an external hard drive, probably a seagate or maybe a western digital one.

I assume that the answer is yes, but if a hard drive is compatible with ME/2000/XP, should I assume it is compatible with Vista? I want to make sure before I buy. Do I have to find one that specifically says Vista compatible?

Also, what's the best formatting option for an external on Vista? I know there are a few, I think one is like nfpts or FAT, I can't remember. Is there one that will save the best space or make it run fast or soemthing. Thanks.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 came with xp, i loaded Vista Home Premium. 2 Ghz intel m processor, 1gb of ram.

It should work, however for piece of mind, once you pick one out, go to the manufacturers website and check.

I would recommend NTFS. Here (http://cquirke.mvps.org/ntfs.htm)'s a comparison of NTFS vs. FAT32 by a Microsoft MVP.

No problem. Also when you look, try to find out if the software is Vista compatible. The software is probably better than the backup software Vista, especially Home Premium, comes with.
