I'm having some problems with my current install of Vista Ultimate 32 Bit. To put it simply, from pressing the power button to seeing my login screen about 20 minutes elapses. I have looked around the net for a solution, and it seems like a very common problem. However, I still haven't found any mention of a work around other than installing the 64 bit version. I just wondered if it would work with my current CPU, which is a P4 3.2 GHz (Socket 478)?

I do not think socket 478 supports 64-bit CPUs (or OSes).
If your PC has a socket 478 PC it is a little bit old for Vista. What are some of the other specs, such as RAM, graphics, etc.?
To try and speed it up, go to the Start Menu and type msconfig in the Search bar, then click "msconfig" to open the System Configuration Editor. Go to the Startup tab and see if there is anything you do not need to startup with Vista.

Other specs are as follows:
Memory: 1GB DDR2
256MB of on board GeForce graphics and a 250GB SATA hard disk.
I have been running Vista 32 bit for a while now, and I have noticed a slight decrease in performance, mainly due to memory consumption! When idling, memory is about 60 percent consumed.
But yeah, the main problem is the 20 minute boot up time. It's rediculous.

Yeah, it shouldn't take so long with those specs.
Try checking what programs startup with Vista:
Please go to the Start Menu and type msconfig in the Search bar, then click "msconfig" to open the System Configuration Editor. Go to the Startup tab and see if there is anything you do not need to startup with Vista.
