Hullo,

I'm having trouble running an old game which was designed for Windows 95/98. After a bit of searching I've found that other people have had the same problem and that the game basically won't run on XP with any stability.

However the same people have had success running it on Virtual PC. Is anyone familiar with the program? I downloaded it and at first glance it looks a bit techy for the likes of me, but everyone insists it's easy to use.

What I'd like to know is do I have to own a copy of Windows 98 and load it onto Virtual PC? And does anyone know of any instructions for it so that easily confused people like me can use it?? :dizzy:

Cheers,
Rob

The best bet is just to read through the documentation.

The basics are that you create a new virtual machine, which will be a selfcontained file on your real PC.

When you open this virtual machine in Virtual PC at first it will be a blank file, basically if you had a blank harddrive.

What you do is tell the vitual pc to boot from the CD Rom and you can install Win98.

Try running compatibility mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx) first. Also try DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net), it's possible you actually have a DOS game (which ran on Win 95/98 because they're DOS-based operating systems).
