Network Connection Problem, This is a first for me
Hi Folks,
I am new to this forum but I have had such great luck in the past whit the hard problems I have come against. I Volenteer my time time repairing computers and have had good luck. This machine that I am working on has me pulling my hair out: Dell Dimension 3000 P-4 2.79 GHz with 256 of PC 3200 DDR400 CL3 Ram. I loaded a new O.S. XP PRO same as always. The problem is I cant get the Network card to work no matter what I do. The NIC is built in and replaced the drivers Ect, Tried a new card, Same, Tried a wireless Card, Same. Its like there is a gremlin Blocking it. It does see all of the hardwre !!! Then says "Limited Connectivity" Bla,Bla,Bla. I have other machines on the bench and swap the Cat 5 cables same problem,Have searched all over for a setting ???? Good news the beer is cold and lots of it I am sure it is somthing I might have over looked but I could use some Ideas. Please advise. Thanks, Kurt |

I had the same thing once.. the limited or no connectivity.
I fixed it by resetting my router. |

In addition,
are you using DHCP? Have you tried using a static IP?

This cable connection provided by T.W. Wime Warner/Roadrunner is resindential service and cost affective. Dynamic or Static is that it, I just woke up and the brain is not in gear as of yet.
I have repaired 30+ at least towers/Laptops and never have seen this problem. Maybe somthing in the Bios was modified, Is that possible. This machine just does not like any "network hardware" it will install fine and says working/No problems but the same limited or no connection. three other machines on bench all working. Yes I have re set routers/ Switches, swapped cables. all cat5/ Eithernet connections are hot/ working. I still think it's in a setting someware, |

It sounds like the PC is not getting an IP address from the DHCP server. Post the results of the following command (from the ipconfig.txt file):
Code:
ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt |

It doesn't look good.
A working adaptor that cannot find a valid IP will be given an IP in the range of 169.... 0.0.0.0 may indicate that the adaptor is dead. Just a note. If you have set your adaptor/connection to use IP6 then disable it. You will be ok using normal IP settings.

You may be able to reset the network adapter connection number by removing all instances of it. It is not a requirement to get a working connection though. You may also want to check the disabled devices in Device Manager and remove those network adapters (if any) also.
However, it is also possible that the built-in network adapter has failed. You could try adding a PCI network card to the computer. |
