I have Vista64 installed on my drive C and a second HD installed on my computer that had WindowsXP installed on it. I wanted to repartition my second hard drive 320GB drive into 1 partition and delete XP and just use the drive as storage. I went into Administrator Settings and-Disk Management to see the partitions and drives installed on my computer. I deleted both partitions on my second drive and then created 1 large (full size of the drive) partition. I tried doing a full format and after about a minute of formating (about 1%) it stops and I get an I/O error. I can quick format the drive, but every time I try and send data to the drive it stops responding. Is there something I can do to try and get the drive formatted fully and get it back as a clean drive? Both drivers are SATA and I have tried reinstalling the Force590 drivers and still nothing.

Thanks in advance.

You could try a third party partitioner.

Check the HDD manufacturers website.
If that doesn't help then there are plenty of free programs

I've used ranish and partitionlogic before.
