pop up blocker

My sons installed a pop up blocker program but it didn't stop pop ups so they uninstalled it. But it now keeps popping up windows and we can't get rid of them. Everytime we try to shut down the computer, pop ups keep coming and it takes several tries before we can shut down.

Hi owyangs, Welcome to CTH! It sounds like you may have aquired an unwanted piece of malware. Go here and download and run HijackThis. When the scan is finished, save the log and copy and paste it in a reply.

You can also download, install and run Spybot, letting it get rid of all the spyware for you. I use both it and AdAware about once a week.

Thanks to the oh-so-determined advertising world, yet another computer maintenance chore has been added to ever-growing list.

Yeah, yeah, I know...it's the ads that are keeping the internet mostly subscriber-fee free but, hey, that doesn't mean I can't do at least a little whining about it

Hi
Thanks for the help. Got rid of one but now it's on my other son's computer.

Know any thing about Whaimager? It has that in the heading and then in a smaller box, it says Runtime error 9. Subscript out of range. OK?

It seems to be linked to www.fineclick.com but when I try to go there, it won't open.

Any input will be appreciated. Should I try the blockers you suggested before?

Thanks again.
Marcia

Hi Marcia - yep, it's the Whazit hijacker. You can follow the advice in the link I posted or post a Hijack This log and we will help you personally.
