Hi Animal_Headbuts - welcome to CTH. If you still have problems after trying the fixes in the link that Greta posted, could you please tell us what OS you have and what version of IE you are running.

Unhappy

Hello Greta and Everyone,
I did try what was on that site and it did not seem to assist me.

I am grateful. I just don't know what to do other than redo my entire computer.

Since I sell books, CD and other things online this is very stressful and a huge job. I am trying to get everything onto a Zip drive.

I have a sony laptop that I wish I never bought. I have Windows ME that I don't like. Someday, I will get a computer that I want and it will not be a Sony or Win ME.

I just looked in my add/remove programs and it says I have Microsoft IE 6 sp1 and internet tools and Microsoft Outlook Express 6.

I had been using AOL. I recently switched over to Comcast aka At&t broadband. When I still had AOL the links would initiate, sign on the AOL and the page would also come up.

I uninstalled AOL and now links don't work in my Comcast Emails.

Jen

Hi again Animal_Headbuts - check to make sure that IE is your default browser.

Go to Start > Settings, and open Control Panel. Doubleclick the Internet or Internet Options icon, and click Programs. Make sure that "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default" is ticked then click Apply and OK.

Open internet Explorer, and then click Yes when you receive the following prompt.

Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to make it the default?

Let us know if this helps.

Hi Animal_Headbuts,
In addition to AnnMarie's great advice, you could check this out

Open My Computer, and go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types tab and then scroll down to locate URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol under the File Types heading. Click on it to highlight, then click on Advanced button, then, in the Actions field, click on open to highlight and click on Edit button. In the Application used to perform action field, it should say:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have.....

in DDE message field:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,

in Application field:
IExplore

leave the DDE Application Not Running field blank

in Topic field:
WWW_OpenURL

Hi AnnMarie,
I did what you suggest but it did not work so I rebooted and it still didn't work.

Hello Greta,
I tried doing what you suggest but I can not find the following.

nohome

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have.....

in DDE message field:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,

in Application field:
IExplore

leave the DDE Application Not Running field blank

in Topic field:
WWW_OpenURL

I was able to find the prior information.

Should I click the ie6setup to reset up this program?

Jen

You should be able to do a Repair of IE6 via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. If you click on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and then click on Add/Remove button, you should then see a dialogue box containing three options, of which one of the options is Repair.......click in the radio button beside Repair and then click on OK.

As for not finding the nohome, it may be that it is not displayed within the size of that field.....if you clicked to highlight then dragged your mouse over to the right, you may then see it there.
