I'm having trouble connecting a computer with the Windows Vista Home Premium OS to network printer. The network printer is connected to a computer which is running SME-Server 7.0. Was able to ping SME-Server successfully, but still not able to connect. I'm aware that with this version of Windows i'm not allowed to connect to a domain, but we also have the XP Home Edition OS running on some of the other computers attached to our network and I had no problem connecting to the Server. I also assumed that this newer version of Windows automatically detects the network in which it's connected to. I guess I assumed wrong...I've pretty much tried everything that I can think of!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

exactly what printer? not all network printers are vista compatible - I found out the hard way myself. Did you check with the printers manufacturers website to see if vista drivers are available?

Welcome :)

Have you connected to a network at all?
You have to go through the same steps as in previous versions of windows.
You need to enable file/printer sharing
Set a workgroup if you want to connect to that workgroup
Set firewalls to allow in/out access permission
