Anyone know how to increase mcafee virus scan speed?

It takes about a full 12 hours for mcafee to scan through my disks. Should it take this long and are there ways I can decrease the time? I have Windows XP, 1 GB ram, and 40Gb HD, with only abou 25 GB full. Suggestions?

Thats odd. I have 380mb RAM and 80 gig disk and it takes less than half an hour.

if you have any disks or cds in drives, they will slow down the scanning bigtime if your settings are to scan all drives.

However, in general, 12 hours is way too long.

I think I always set it to scan everything. Either way, I don't think by unchecking the drives that I could reduce the time significantly. Are there any other things that could help?

Also, I can't even do anything while the scan is running since it just makes everything way too slow.

what cpu do you have and what version of mcafees? IMO, when you are running a virus scan you do not need to be trying to run anything else.

Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz. I basically start the virusscan in the morning and check periodically to see it progress. I have another computer so I don't use it at all while its checking. I'm just saying, I almost physically can't if I tried since its just too slow.
