Using Linksys wireless - G 2.4 GHz broadband Router
Using Linksys wireless - G 2.4 GHz broadband Router. I have my computer connected with cable. My son's computer in the room above me is wireless hook up and doing fine. My daughter, on the other side of our small house is unable to connect to the internet wireless. When we first connected we could intermittantly connect to internet- it said 'signal not strong' enough. What hardware do I replace my Linksys with? No one seems to have an answer!

Before going to far, I would move your daughter's system near the router for a test to make sure it connects fine when in close proximity. If you connect fine, then the issue is either interference, or too much attenuation. Although distance is normally the problem, thickness, consistency and number of walls/floors in between are a factor too. And of course, communications is a two way street. Although the industry is getting better at interoperability, many experts still recommend sticking with one maker throughout the wireless side of the network. Since your son connects fine, I would not change the router. Instead, consider a new adapter for your daughter's machine - ensuring it is a Linksys G type, and ensure it is a type that has an external antenna. If her system is a laptop, you may consider getting one of these for her to give her more flexibility in positioning the antenna. This may help PC too, since it can be positioned high in the room, etc.
Also, Since you connect via Ethernet, consider positioning the router (or antennas, if the detachable type) higher, lower, to the left, to the right, etc. and see if connectivity improves. Much like rabbit ear antennas and TVs, sometimes it is just a matter of holding your tongue right! As for interference, your options are limited. Turn off all other electronic devices in the vicinity that may produce RF signals, such as TVs, fluorescent lights, and other digital devices. Ensure the electrical outlets are properly wired and grounded.
