Hello all!

I'm having a bit of trouble with setting up file sharing between XP and ME via Ethernet cable.

I've read a few guides here and there but I still can't get it to "appear" on either PC's.

Also, I can't set up the network on XP then save to floppy to set up on the old one, because there's no floppy drive on the XP PC!

Oh, and I sometimes get this error message appear when plugging in the Ethernet cable sometimes:

The system has detected a conflict for I.P. Address 192.168.01 with the system having hardware address 00:15:58:45:88:BB

Any help is much appreciated as I urgently need this out of the way!

Craig.

Hello Craig,

An ip address conflict happens when two computers have the same ip address. Each computer must have a unique ip address. You can start the Setup Wizard using the Windows XP CD-ROM. If the computers are connected to a router, then choose the "this computer connect through a residental gateway (router)" option during the setup wizard.

Hey,

I've managed to sort this out by making their I.P's different from one another, but I still can't find each PC from either one. Something I've missed, please help!

I'm using just the crossover cable.

Try accessing the computer by ip address. To do so, click Start, Run, type "\\192.168.1.1", then click OK.
