I have been very frustrated trying to play a file but nothing is recognizing it. I have a .avi file that I would like to play but it is not working. when i try to even fix it through another program, it says it is not an .avi file even though when i click on properties for it, it clearly is. can anyone lease help me with this. it is very frustrating.

thanks

In all likelihood the file is corrupted some how and it will not play on any computer. If you know where it came from try to get a new copy. Also you could try Mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html) which I find plays some corrupted files better than other programs.

Really? because it is a video that I recorded. that's really unfortunate. if anyone has any other solutions, it would be greatly appreciated. spend days trying to figure it out. thanks.

What did you use to record the avi? AVI is a generic format that covers a lot of proprietory codecs. The way you recorded it will dictate the best way to play it back.

it was working fine after i recorded it but then i encrypted it with Kruptos 2. after i decrypted it to watch it, it started to get the error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." so i tried to repair it but everything i try to repair it with says it is not an avi file when the computer clearly states it is. even g spot doesn't know wat it is. This is so frustrating. i really hope there is a solution.

Hate to state the obvious but it sounds to me like the encryption/decryption has corrupted the file.
