Dell XPS 410
Vista Premium
2 GB RAM
320 HD
My hard drive makes the “Geiger counter noise”. Especially after reboot as everything checks in. If this is normal, no problem I can deal with it.
The computer is brand new.
I can’t use my old Semantic password manager. Once you’re used to it, it’s hard to go back to my PW piece of paper.
Anyone know of a pass word manager?

A new harddrive shouldn't be overly noisy. If you have suspicions then have it replaced.
Checkout download.com for password managers.

That ticking noise should be normal, but if you're worried replace it
I have experienced with 4 brand new seagate drives and a toshiba drive that the clicking noise is always there... there are quieter drives though

You gotta love the web and CTH in particular.
Here I am in USA with a problem and I get answers from Australia and The UK (Britain or N. Ireland?).
OK the strength level of the noise? It's a rumble noise. Quieter then a ticking clock. About as loud as a cats purr.
Quieter then rolling a pencil across a hard surface.
What is the HD actually doing when I hear this?
Thanks

As far as the PW manager it has to be compatible with VISTA!!
Anything in mind?

the noise is coming from the HDD's head going back and forth across reading the disk
as for PW manager, have you tried installing/using it with Vista's Compatibility mode set to XP?
right click on the exe/shortcut and select compatibility
