router/modem help!! plz...

Hello guys and ty to those that post help:) I have a Webstar DPX2203 series modem and a linksys wrt54gs router.. when I hook the wireless router up I cannot get internet..the ethernet card reads as connected and I have restart the modem/router/comp a million times with no luck//I have also ran the software included in the box and ran network connection wizard through windows a million times. I also did a Run/cmd/ipconfig/renew .. I just cannot get this thing to work for some reason..all the right lights are on the router and modem..any help plz? Also I am running the linksys to main comp using the ethernet wire not wireless.The wireless is for my second comp..both are not getting web..The second comp does see the signal from the router but still cannot connect..TY guys ahead of time.

I see that the experts haven't answered your post, yet, so if I can please ask a couple of dumb questions in the meantime (I'm no expert).

Do you mean that you can get an Internet connection if you connect your computer directly to the modem, and not the router?

If so, are you sure the modem is connected to the "Internet" port on the router, and the Ethernet cable from the computer is plugged-in to one of the other 4 ports on the router?

If this is a new modem that hasn't connected before, did you call your Internet Service Provider's Customer Service, to see if they can "see" your modem on their network? Maybe they need to initialize it.

Sorry if these questions are very basic - I'm trying to learn something.

Yes i can get internet if I just use the modem alone..the modem is not new :(Also the cables are all in the right place:)

Hi I'll try to help out, but we need to do some troubleshooting first.
The 1st step is to get the wired connection working through the router, then work out the wireless details.

Do you have a cable or DSL connection for you internet connection?

Can you run ipconfig on the wired machine with it connectected to the modem and with it connected to the router? (post the output back here, please.)

ok I have cable internet. With just the modem hooked up i have a connection-specific DNS suffix,with the router hooked up i have no connection-specific DNS suffix.also my ip address and default gateway change with the router hooked up and the subnet mask stays the same either way. if u need actuall numbers ill post them.

What is the IP address you get with the router? (Since its not a public IP its perfectly OK to post)(Actually, I'd prefer if you post all the output of ipconfig/all so I can see the various settings)

ok im dumb.. cable modem had a battery pack that was stopping it from fully rebooting..ty for ur time ..a lesson learned.
