I am trying to send JPEG photograph files as email attachments. To most receipients this is successful, but I am having problems sending them to 2 of my friends; one is using a MAC and the other is using a hotmail account, so it might be 2 different problems that I have.

When they receive the email the attachment has been converted to a WIN.DAT file? Any suggestions please.

how big is the image/attachment?

With overheads, hotmail usually only accepts attachments of around 1mb.

Have you tried sending the image within a zip file, not to save space but just because it is a different file type.

Thanks for your reply.

I suspected the size issue with the Hotmail account as the file size is 197KB, although I have successfully sent it to my own Hotmail account as a test. Could this be that my Hotmail account is empty and my friends not?

I will try the ZIP suggestion to the MAC user and let you know if that is successful

thanks

Phil

Up date information on my attachment problem.

The file is winmail.dat and I now I have found out that this is a well known problem, but I need to be sure that I am using the best solution.

It appears that the problem is caused by me using MS Outlook to send emails formatted for RTF format with attachments to others that are not using Outlook.

I have found out that I can format my emails in either RTF, Plain or HMTL format. I know RTF is not the one to use, and it would seem that the other two work OK. But which is the best. I would prefer not to use plain text as this produces a basic looking email.

Can someone explain the difference between plain and HMTL format in MS outlook.

Thanks

plain means text only.

HTML means that you can embed graphics and you fonts & colours.
