Hi, I'm running Windows Vista and with Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox installed. I'm attempting to run some games I've purchased off of Shockwave.com, (such as Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children) but am receiving the same error on every game I attempt to run. Upon initially launching the game, the splash page appears, and on top of that, this error:
----
Internet Explorer Script Error
----
An error has occured in the script on this page

Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: ActiveX Component Can't Create Object: 'SwDRM.SwDRMax'
Code: 0
URL: file:///C:/Users/Carol/AppData...

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
(Yes) (No)
Choosing either option will still not allow the game to run. For example, after pushing "Yes" and then choosing the option
to "Play Free Trial"
The error "Object required: 'SwDRM' appears - Obviously since the first error is pointing out it was unable to be created. I've tried adjusting my IE settings; reinstalling flash + shockwave etc.
This one really has me stumped, so any help you guys could provide would be awesome. Thanks a ton!

Hi DavidatMPA welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

Have you installed the Shockwave Player (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi) and the Flash Player (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&%3BP5_Language=English)?

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times with no luck :(

Try uninstalling Shockwave again, reboot and obtain a fresh download. This time, rightclick on the installation file and choose "Run as Administrator". Your install will start. Reboot again and let us know if this helped.

Thanks for the responses guys. This is actually a clients computer and I don't have the ability to test the suggestion at this very moment, but I'll try it.

I'm not so sure it is a shockwave issue though, as to me it appears to be some sort of security issue that is preventing the component from being created.

Any thoughts?

Hi David, I thought it may be a permissions issue. That's why I suggested installing using the "Run as etc" option.

I had the same issue and had to do with UAC On or Off.

When I first installed Shockwave and Flash it was on a fresh Vista install. UAC is automatically On. I got tired of messages and turned UAC off (Control Panel/User Accounts). Well now you de-install Flash and Shockwave. But not really. Try to go to c:windows\system32\Macromed and delete the Macromed directory to really get rid of everything. You probably don't have permissions. The de-install really didn't work. I turned UAC back on. Deleted the Macromed directory. Re-installed Shockwave and Flash.

The game now works. I'm not positive the exact reason as I tried about everything. This particular scenario worked for me after days of trying. BTW the downloaded game worked before I re-installed Shockwave.
