I recently got a D-Link DI-624 router. The instructions on several support sites have told me to do this after connecting the router:

The D-Link is configured using a Web browser. After you have connected your computer to the D-Link router, follow these steps:

1. Launch your Web browser. Enter "http://192.168.0.1" into the address bar and press the "Enter" or "Return" key.
2. A logon pop-up screen will appear. Type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank.
3. Click "OK". A D-Link configuration screen will appear. All changes to the D-Link configuration are made here.

The login screen pops up, but when I try to log in as admin it won't let me. It does nothing a few times and then says something about my authentication failing. The CD that came with the router is basically useless, as the software says it doesn't even detect a supported D-Link router. And yes, all the cords are going to the right places and I've power cycled the modem and router and restarted and still have the same problems.

Try using admin for the user and admin for the password. If that don't work, try admin for the user and dont enter a password.

If they don't work try installing another browser such as mozilla firefox. I've seen a problem a couple of times that for some reason Internet explorer didn't work for the router login screen.

I tried IE and Firefox and couldn't log into either. I tried "user" instead of "admin" for the login and I got to the setup, but when I went to actually run the setup wizard it told me that only admin can change the settings. So we're back where we started, not being able to log in as admin, and I tried it both ways with the password being blank and being admin. I don't know if this helps but I did ipconfig and a ping test with the router hooked up and got this:

Have you tried a factory reset?

Take out the power lead, put a pin or the end of a ball point pen into the little hole on the back of the router. While keeping that depressed put the power lead in. Keep the reset button pressed for a few seconds and then let go.

You will notice the lights flash and the router will reset back to the factory default settings.

Then try login in as admin.

Is there some reason you are not using the setup cd? It goes in so easily these days.
Only IE will work for what you are trying to do and I seem to remember it's admin and then password but again the cd is real easy.

The setup CD doesn't work. It tells me it doesn't detect a supported router. I tried the factory reset and the admin login with IE and have still not had any luck.

Are you certain you have it plugged in right? The modem to the wan and then one of the numbered ports in router to the computer's nic? If you do, then you have a defective router.

Well, it's looking defective then. Maybe I'll have to send it back.

Hi, I just installed a D-Link DI-524 & I'm no geek, but I could get into Wizard from either IE or Firefox. On page 2 of the Installation Guide it has the sequence for initial hookup u can't just plug all the cables in at once. If u can't get to Wizard it says to START from scratch 1 cable at a time, hope this helps,
Bob
