I may need more help on this, but for starters, a basic question. How can I tell whether or not my computers already have wireless network capabilities? One is an older laptop, which probably doesn't. One is a new desktop that very well might, but I don't know how to find out. Any help would be appreciated.

99 percent of desktops don't come with wireless so I doubt if yours does. As far as the laptop, it depends, someone here may know about your specific laptop, which make and model?

I really need to create a wireless LAN with file sharing and printer sharing. I have two PCs; One running Vista Home Premium, the other XP Home. Both PCs are connected to a wireless access point, which is connected to a wireless router. The wireless network has been created, and both PCs can access the Internet, but they cannot see each other. Please help me!

This thread may also answer my question. I'm pretty much looking for the same thing. For both computers to see eachother and be able to share and print. However, both mine are desktops and both on xp home.

I posted a seperate thread. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154127

Hey
I fixed this problem by using Hamachi software to create a internet-based LAN. I can now see the other PC, print to it, share files, everything.
I'm happy

bandwidth? I'm on DSL. Over 1GB? I'm sure there's a better approach.

Ok just use Hamachi. It has to work. I can send you some screenshots if you want. And don't worry, I made a mistake with the 'bandwidth' thing :cry2: . I have been trying to set up a wireless LAN for ages and this works fine.
Trust me :P

Have you tried 'Set up a home or small office network'? (NOT set up a wireless network) I know that it doesn't work with Vista, it should probably work with 2 XPs.

I tried it after I saw your thread. It works on one computer but not on the other. The workgroup name is the same. They need to be the same name, right? They are. I see the workgroup computers on one desktop but not on the other one.
