flash player probs

this may be in the wrong forum section but here goes.
about 70 percent of the time when i try to watch a flash toon or movie ,the toon locks up!sometimes i can refresh page and get it to go but sometimes i gotta reboot .then it may work for a couple of toon/movies then it just locks again.also sometimes it plays but with no volume although the volume will work for my media player and winamp(i checked right after).im running win2k pro,internet explorer 5,i also have shockwave installed .if im leaving out an important tidbit --let me know and ill tell you if i can.
oh btw my computer is a compac pressario 5000,amd 750 duron,128 mb ram

Which Flash player do you have (version)?

sorry it took me so long to reply.
i distinctly remember downloading macromedia flash player,however the only folder i can find that says macromedia is in winntsys32 folder and only contains shockwave 8.i downloaded shockwave 8 well after i first got the macromedia flash player.
did shockwave 8 sort of take over for the other?

ok wait a minute i found the version for shockwave--its macromedia flash player 6.0 r40

Nope that wasnt the answer I was hoping for.. :-( So since you have a recent (if not the most recent) version...can you throw a URL to a flash "toon" that causes you problems? Hopefully we can rule out some more possibilities....

well it can happen at any site but lets for instance use www.liquidgeneration.com for example --some times its all good but sometimes if i select a choice its loads then just wont play (like it locks at the very start) or like in original post it plays but i get no sound---im thinking its a computer problem ,i starting to think that because now ive noticed that i get no sound from my msn messenger(like when a buddy signs in it makes no sound ,although it used to,or like it made sound when someone sent me e-mail)
how ever i dont know where to look to test the computer or whatever.
but my winamp always plays and so does my media player(never once has either locked up or no sound came from them.
maybe a problem with sound card?
im stumped !!!!but put it this way ,i got a wicked deal on this computer (and got it all loaded up from a buddy right from scratch )so if this is unfixable its not a really big deal because the computer works great otherwise.
