I was messing around with my vista registy, testing a registry program and really messed things up. I lost just about everything in my services - even in safemode. It was so bad that I was forced to do a repair installed since even system restore was messed up. I guess thats what happens when accidentally delete 126 lines from the registry. So I decided to bite the bullet.
Found my Ultimate Vista Dvd, insert it, clicked on repair, and found that it can do other things, It gave a choice to do a startup repair, system restore, complete pc restore (using a backup), memory diagnostic, and command prompt. I found that system restore worked using the original dvd and it found my restore points. Less than a minute later - back up and running.
I have to admit, in some ways Microsoft almost got it right.
