Photoshop 6 is not compatible with OSX. You can not install it with any version of OSX.
I'm tempted not to answer and lock this thread. We do not support illegal, warez software here. I had to pay for my copy, so should you.

You can not get a Photoshop 6 trial legally. Currently there are no legal trials other than perhaps CS2 if you downloaded it in the past 2 weeks. Most often older version trials are used on warez servers in conjunction with a "crack" for them.
Photoshop 7 on the Mac was the first version that was compatible with OSX.

You'll need to update the OS. Almost nothing is going to run on OS10.1. It was essentially a late "beta" OS.
I believe CS2 required OS10.3 as a minimum. CS required OS10.2. And CS3 requires OS10.4.

well i knew getting into this that i would have to upgrade but i didn't want to spend the money with the new operating system coming out soon.
Do they have a release date on it?

Latest rumor is October 07 for 10.5.

i also had another question, the cd drive is very old and i was looking to change it. They have made it very hard and i cannot get to the screws on the backside of it. Is there an easy way that i am missing?

Not really. iMacs aren't made for easy upgrading. You may have to remove other parts to get to the screws.
