Question Wireless Network Printing

I have a Westell VersaLink 327W modem from Verizon Internet.

I have two desktop PC's. Both of the PC's are Windows XP Home, SP2.

Both desktops are setup wirelessly (using an internal gigabyte wireless card) because the phone jack is located in an inconvenient area to run a long wire to one of the desktops.

I need assistance/step-by-step guide in setting up both computers to recognize eachother so they can share files and print to a printer which is plugged in to one of the desktops.

One of the wizards I tried asks me to save the configuration to a floppy disk. Neither PC has a floppy disk. I have a flash drive.

Any leading assistance is greatly appreciated.

I can be a bit lazy at times, so for step by step instructions I'm going to refer you to this document from MS. If you have any questions or problems, just give a shout.

BTW - I'm pretty sure you can use a flash drive instead of a floppy.

The Wireless Network Setup Wizard does allow you to save the configuration and transfer its settings using a flash drive.

It does not seem to work. Can you tell me exactly what it is I have to do on both computers in order for it to work effectively?

Hello mrsafest,

You didn't explain why doesn't work and what you see. Try working out the steps below and see if this helps. If not, report back with any additional information that you can.

1. Start the Wireless Network Setup Wizard. When the Welcome screen appears, click Next.
2. Enter your SSID (network name) and encryption settings in the fields, and click Next.
3. Then choose the option "Use a flash USb drive," then click Next and continue until you complete the Wireless Network Setup Wizard.

Hamachi does not seem to be working for me. I am certain I do not need a third party application to get what I want. Maybe I am being mis-understood.

All I want is to be able to file share and print over a wireless network where both desktop PC's are connected wirelessly to a wireless modem provided by my ISP, Verizon. The modem is a Westell VersaLink 327W.

mrsafest I have not understood you (now I do). Believe me, I have had the same problem for a long, long time, and I still don't fully understand why I have to use Hamachi.

Have you tried Set Up Home or Small Office network? It should definitely work between 2 PCs. (running XP)

(Wireless Network Setup is only for configuring and accessing a wireless AP. You need to run the above as well for File and Printer Sharing.)

I have tried it and it works on one but not the other. I am inputting the same information, however, on the other desktop, I don't see the shared folder or the workgroup computers.

Workgroup name? Remembered that?
(windows key + Pause/Break > Computer name > Workgroup Name
The workgroup name needs to be the same for all PCs on the network, also CaSe SeNsItIve)
