I downloaded Regcleaner to clean my registry. I erased files that I know I didn't have anymore.

The next day, after I put my password in, I keep getting this error message.

It doesn't even name a program on it. I do have an empty exe file in the "open with" section that I've mentioned in a previous post here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72821&highlight=blue_70517). I want to delete that empty exe file, but I'm not sure if I should.

This is more of an annoyance. My computer still runs after I click ok.

Start | Run

Type in

msconfig (Hit<ok>)

Go to Start Up TAB

Is this blank one listed there???? If so uncheck the box, hit apply, reboot, when the window comes up telling you what you did, check ignore or don't show me this again.

It's not listed there.

It used to be there though a while back. I remember deleting it from the msconfig list.

I don't have any spyware/malware issues.

I'm still getting that message when I log in.

Most of the time when I get off the internet (I'm still on dial up) and I want to shut down my computer for the night, a message pops up and the program that isn't responding is blank.

You asked if I had that blank exe file in msconfig and I deleted it. It's still lingering in my open with list which is why I posted a question in the first place.

The next time my computer freezes with that message about a blank program not responding, I'll post it.

Try doing a SYSTEM RESTORE to a few days ago (Before you made any changes) and then we'll start from there (To safely clean up your registry)

1) Bootup and press F8 until you see a menu
2) Select option 5 (Command Prompt)
3) Type "Scanreg/restore" at the C:\ Prompt
4) Restore form a point BEFORE you used regcleaner...

Please let us know if this works (It might)

I only deleted things I knew I didn't have anymore.

The only thing I can think of is I must have deleted something related to whatever makes that screen pop up now. So I must not have fully deleted whatever it is and that's why i'm getting that message.

Maybe it'll make more sense if I list what I deleted from RegCleaner.

1. There was a hallmark.exe file in my open with list. That came from when I had kazaa. I don't have Kazaa anymore and I don't have hallmark.exe anywhere on my computer so I removed it from the open with list.

2. there was a file called adrile in the open with list. I didn't have that anymore so I deleted that also.

3. I had a sound program with the file name dosounde I deleted. That was also in the open with list.

4. Uninstall menu item, MSN Messenger 4.6, 5/11/07, 9:51:01 PM

5. Registry entry, Pbr: Warner, 5/2/07, 12:02:36 AM

6. Registry entry, Pbr: Kiddos, 5/2/07, 12:02:45 AM

7. Registry entry, PreInstalled: KiddoNet, 5/2/07, 12:02:53 AM

8. ShellExtension, jv16PT.jvb : Run, 5/2/07, 12:09:10 AM

9. ShellExtension, blendfile : Open, 5/2/07, 12:10:05 AM

10. ShellExtension, DigiOnSound.MultiTrack : Open, 5/2/07, 12:10:42 AM

11. ShellExtension, AdriSTS : Open, 5/2/07, 12:11:42 AM

12. ShellExtension, ComicChatRoomShortcut : Open, 5/2/07, 12:14:07 AM

13. ShellExtension, @playPro.Document : Open, 5/2/07, 12:14:07 AM

Maybe I'm having problems because I didn't fully delete ComicChat. There's still files on my computer from that. I don't even use ComicChat. it was preinstalled.

1 more thing worth mentioning...

If I click on a file I have and use open with and I open up that blank exe file, it opens up my C: drive. What does that mean?

You might try this?:In DOS: C:\scanreg /fix
if you try this make sure you leave a space between the g and /.
Hope this maybe of some help?

I clicked Start/Run and typed scanreg and it didn't find any errors in the registry, so I'm doubting that /fix would help anything.

Here's the picture of the message I get sometimes when I try to turn off my computer and it'll say explorer (not responding). I click on Shut Down and sometimes this message pops up. (I couldn't get the actual picture b/c I usually have to reboot when that message pops up. It'll give me options of Wait, End Task, or Cancel.)
