anybody done so? IS there a difference reliablbiity wise with buying a notebook from ebay than the store? If you run into problems, are Mac's easy to troubleshoot like PC's when something goes wrong??

looking to buy laptop, wife wants to buy at the store, I don't think anything wrong with saving a few hundred with buying somethign 1 year used or newer.

what do you all think?

I'd NEVER buy a system from ebay.

Macs are easy to troubleshoot for SOFTWARE, but serious hardware issues means having a store warranty is worthwhile. The couple hundred you save at ebay may end up being eaten by replacing a bad CD drive, a faulty monitor, an iffy motherboard.....

Craigslist is a little better because it's not people who are living off of ebay.

You can find great deals on used stuff with warranties though. www.powermax.com www.smalldog.com -- I've bought from both with great results.

Alot of people have purchased systems through ebay without any problems but I will not. Its a risk I cannot afford to take.

If you can financially afford to take the risk of purchasing a used computer that may or may not work then go for it. Remember if it does not work, unless you picked a good seller, you will not get your money back nor will you have a warranty.

If you are looking for a bargain, go to dell, gateway, sony or one of the other major manufactuers and visit their refurbish/outlet shops.
