I'm trying to replace Microsoft Internet Explorer with Mozilla Firefox.
I installed the Firefox program and chose to use Firefox as the default browser.
Things were fine until I shut down the computer and later during the day, went back on the internet. Internet Explorer loaded instead of Firefox.
I closed the window, went to desktop and clicked on Firefox icon. This got me to Firefox OK. I do not want to have to do this each. Can't I somehow turn off IE and set Firefox as the default? How do I do this?

Hi jack, and welcome to CTH.
Whether you can do what you want depends on your ISP and possible on the version of Windows you are using. Who do have as an ISP? Is it dialup or broadband? What do you do to 'get on the Internet'? And finally, what version of Windows do you have?
I know thats a lot of questions, but their answers will help someone give you the correct info.

I have win98 SE, dial up modem, and the isp is People pc.
I went thru Mozilla's help and according to their test, Mozilla Firefox is set as the default browser. When I connect to the internet, however, Microsoft Internet Explorer loads. How do I turn this off?

did you have to install peoplepc specific software, if so, there may be a setting there that needs to be changed.
Try this test, instead of getting online as you normally do, try getting online by clicking on your firefox icon.

I finally heard from peoplepc tech support.
When Peoplepc is installed, windows internet explorer is automatically set as the browser. There is no provision to change this.
What I have to do each time is to close internet explorer and then open Firefox.
Thanks to those who tried to help.

What if you change the firefox main filename to "IEXPLORE.EXE" and place it in the IE folder?? (Change the other "IEXPLORE.EXE" in that folder to a different name while you test this.....)
I had to do something like this a few years ago to get Java to work with MyIE2 (Before i helped them rewrite the code so it works on its own with Java)
Good luck!
