Hi
I have a cafe and we have recently just installed a laptop with wireless internet. The laptop is open to customer use, i want to add some security to the computer so people cannot screw up the computer. The only current security is i have a limited account user for customers and an admin account for me. I want to know if there is any software that can deny/lock access to certain components and parts of programs. For example my AVG virus scanner i want to be able to deny access to altering settings.
Is there software to do this or will i need to set up a server and control things from there?

Thanks a lot

You are welcome geordiejack. There is no free software that I am aware of for XP Home however for a fee of $50.00 (US) you can purchase a Corporate License for Doug Knox's Security Console here (http://dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm).

Check it out and let us know if this is what you were looking for.

Hi
Ah it's ok then, do you know of any good programs to lock files and folders?
Also what other ways would i need to protect the pc? I have antivrus and antispyware installed.

Thanks a lot greatly appreciated

You are welcome geordiejack. Regarding locking files and folders, did you look at all the options in the screenshot? You can disable access to programs and also remove the My Documents folder. There are various folder locking utilities out there but I havent used any so I cant recommend them. Perhaps other members will jump in and help with this. Be careful with this type of utility though. I have heard of users forgetting their passwords and having to reformat.

Regarding security, click on the link in my signature for more help with this. :)
