Hi all just wanted to say a few good words about DELL.

A few weeks ago I bought a used DELL Dimension 8300
for a whopping $25.00. :-) (less monitor and Restore CD)
However it was infested with mal-ware and viruses.
Cleaned it up the best I could and got it working pretty good.
But I just couldn't trust it.
Really wanted the Restore CD so I could do a clean install
without having to plop down $200.00 for a retail version of XP.

I had heard that DELL would replace lost or damaged Restore Discs.
Free of charge.
So I thought I would give it a try, not holding out much hope.
Found the link and ordered the CD. (6/9/07_9:30 AM)
To my surprise I received the CD this mourning (6/12/07_10:30 AM.
Three day service, that's not bad.

Since Michael Dell re-joined as head honcho, they've been working hard on customer service - at one time they were tops in the industry, then fell to about 127th place. Nice to hear Dell is still trying to make a good comeback.

When did he leave?

Back in Sept. 2001 they cheated me out of a $200.00 rebate. I bought my computer (this computer) on the last day the rebate period was in effect but when I tried to claim it they said the rebate period started the day after.

A few years ago. To devote more time to...umm...golf, I think. Dell stock was tanking, and Michael took over the company to turn it around.

Could you show the rankings list?

Sure thing.

I purchased a new Dell in January (Dimension E 520) and I am very impressed with it. I was also very impressed with the Dell employee that organised the purchase and delivery. It was good deal.

I'm using my fourth Dell. I've had trouble with only one of them.

For that one, I called Dell, couldn't fix it on the phone (poor guy tried, we talked, we laughed, he admitted it was his first day on the job, he got his supervisor involved, we had a great time) so they sent a tech out with a new video card (a 150 mile round trip for him). He installed it, couldn't get it to work correctly either, called the number provided for Dell techs, they couldn't help. It finally turned out to be yet another Nvidia driver problem which I later got sorted out by installing an older driver version.

Second problem, same computer, the CD drive quit. I called Dell, they send out a tech (same tech, same distance), he replaced the drive.

All of this at no cost to me.

So, I can say my experiences with Dell have been good.

That really was superb service you got there gstone4911. They've turned you into a very satisfied customer, and no doubt you will share this good news with your friends. PR that a company couldnt buy, is that.

I'm currently buying Dells for work - recently switched over from IBM/Lenovo.

the ordering and delivery of Dells is far superior to the IBMs, and they LOOK to be well built and well specced.

Time will tell if they are now more robust and reliable than IBMs. They didnt used to be, I actually used an IBM T20 (or was it my T21?) when I worked for Dell, used to get a lot of stick for it - but boy that baby was reliable and tough.

at work we are going from dell to ibm :rotflmao: thats almost 500 in the one plant. a good 30 percent of the dells had major problems after the first year - mostly motherboard problems.

I did beg/wheedle/beg again, but sadly the new corp we've joined are exclusively Dell pc's :-( Thank heavens they are with HP for servers (phew).

In the three years I've been there, we've had two mobo's out of about 1100 go, the odd cd drive and three or four HDD and one TFT go pop (not counting the abused ones).

i own a Dell myself, and i am also very impressed. I got it in December of last year (2006) and so far no problems what so ever. Only thing i do have a problem with is my graphics card (overheats alot when i play games) but that was my fault. Its a 7300LE (no fan just heatsink) im not blaming this on Dell. Also 1 of my Cd's never came either (sonic cineDVDplayer). So i went online and chatted with them, 2 days later i recieved a mail from Dell with all the CD's again (Windows XP media center etc etc etc.) At no charge to me.
