because of space issues in my apartment, i no longer have room for the bose 601 speakers I purchased back in 1978 (yep old speakers but top of the line in its time). I still regularly use the JVC receiver and other stereo components from back then also - still have great sound.

Now to the issue, I am thinking about gettng a home theatre system for my plasma tv. I want to plug in the old stereo into it also. I could use the old jvc receiver instead of the receiver/dvd player that comes with the theatre system but I am not sure how compatible the old receiver would be with the newer speakers. I wondering about sound quality issues. Any thoughts on this?

Another option would be to run two sets of wires from the speakers, one going to the new and the other going to the old receiver. If I did this would there be a problem with feed back?

Would one or both receivers die if both should be on at the same time while using the same speakers? The reason I ask this question is back in the late 80's when stereo tv's was first becoming popular, I done something similar and burned out the sound on the tv twice. Fortunately it was under warranty and I got the tvs replaced twice. I am wondering if technology has changed to prevent this.

any suggestions or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Do not hook the speaker outputs together.
The outputs use darlington pairs that produce and audio
signal on both the positive and negative outputs.
Not only will the outputs from both amps overpower each other,
but will very easily throw the voltage balance off, burning out the Amplifiers.
Check the user manual.
If the new receiver has a tape monitor, you can use it to patch
the audio over to tape in on the old receiver using RCA cables.
Just connect tape out to tape in and and turn on the tape selector
on the old one.
Use seperate speakers for each receiver.
