View Full Version : Network Password

I am running Vista Home Premium, and have access to a network storage area.
I have been set up with my personal storage area, and have access to a 'public' shared storage area.
To access from Windows Explorer, I need to enter my username, with a null password, and this works fine.
However, when I try to set up Backup and Restore Center to save my data to either the public or private areas, I am asked for a username and password. If I use a null password, I am told I MUST enter a password, and if I do enter a password, I am told it is incorrect!
Is there a way to stop Vista from demanding a password for a resource that does not require one?

More information available if needed.

Hopefully someone else here with vista can reproduce your error, I have not been able to nor have I found any research expressing the same problem. The best advice I can give is to map the network drive and back up to that instead of using the UNC.

Thank you for your reply.
I have mapped the network drive and tried to use that to Back Up to, but the Backup And Restore centre does not present it as an option for me, even though I can browse it quite happily from Windows Explorer.
The network drive is formatted in NTFS, and I cannot see any other reason, apart from permissions, why I cannot use it. :curse:
