my problem is im trying to connect a computer with win98se to a computer with xp sp2 via a single cat5 line between the two (no router) in between. the xp currently has a wireless internet connection but it can be transfered to the 98 comp the router for internet is a belkin wireless router and i have no idea if ics is enabled

Hello shaleradon,
The Belkin router that you have will provide Internet connection to the other computers without enabling ICS on either computer. Just take a standard ethernet cable and connect it to one of the LAN ports on the back of the router. You don't need to connect the two directly (no router). Connecting the two requires a ethernet crossover cable, and while you have a router it will do a much better job.

yes but i dont want to run two 50ft ethernet cables through the house thats why i didnt do that i just want the two computers connected to each other
