Hello!
While doing a scan with AVG Anti-Spyware, I found a few tracking cookies but was wondering if one of you smart cookies could check a HijackThis log to make sure all is well? However, I just went to save a logfile and it said my system denied access to the host files. This is the first time I've used HijackThis as this is a new computer, running Vista Premium. Also, where is the Run function on this operating system!?
Anyway, remainders of the log:

Tracking cookies are relatively harmless DVS, and can be placed on your system by many different websites you visit. No infection here, but you do need to uninstall one of those two antivirus programs to avoid conflicts. Sounds more like you could use some tips on the use of Vista's new setup, so I will move this request to the CTH Vista forum.

Thanks for the reassurance, and I think you're right about the tips; I come from a long line of people too impatient to read instructions! ;)
Do you have any advice on which program to get rid of? I always found AVG very reliable on my old machine after Norton completely let me down, but am a little reluctant to get rid of McAfee until advised to do so!

There's nothing wrong with having two antivirus programs installed. The problems arise when both are running in the background to provide full-time protection. A second AV program, when kept updated, can come in handy when you believe you need a "second opinion scan."

Just choose which one you want to run full time and completely disable the other.

I've just been told by somebody who knows far more than I about malware and the programs that remove them that just disabling an installed AV program is no longer good enough. Even disabled, they will continue to be loaded to some extent due to the way they now install.

You need to choose which you want to keep and uninstall the other.

My apologies for the misinformation.

Thanks foir your help, have decided to stick with McAfee for the moment, fingers crossed it's kinder to me than Norton was! :dizzy:
