Vista noob, s****** the pooch......

Hi guys and gals;
Finally got a new machine, and it's only taken me like 6 months to thouroly screw it up
Running Vista Basic,pre-installed, and it's all gone to s***.
Please give me a starting point,what logs I can provide, etc..
It's to the point I can't even get "task Manager" to run correctly.

Oh yeah, won't even allow me to re-install software w/the disc provided.....
