Exclamation Acquiring network address??

Hi there,
Forgive me, I'm new to the forum, and please assume I have the technical knowledge of a squirrel and talk me through any suggestions you might have? Many thanks

My computer was working completely fine up until and hour ago, then suddenly the internet connection dropped and wouldn't connect again. The two other PCs on the same network are still working fine and accessing internet as normal.

My internet says its found the host name etc, and I have excellent signal strength and speed, but it constantly says "Acquiring network address". I never had this problem before, and I literally was not doing anything out the ordinary that could cause it to suddenly drop.

I'm using a belkin wireless dongle and have windows XP on my computer.

Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks

Typically, a wireless network stuck on "acquiring network address" is actually having problems authenticating with a password server or doesn't have the correct encryption key. Your problem is most likely the latter.

Check to make sure that the key you entered is what you have set on your router/WAP. Since windows obfuscates the key, you'll just have to retype it. To do that, open your network connections, right click on "Wireless Network Connection", click properties, find the wireless network tab, find the name of your network in the list and click properties. You should be able to edit the wireless key. If you can't, just remove your network from the list (using the remove button) then use the "view wireless networks" window to reconnect.

This is a very simple question but have you tried to reboot the computer.

And try a router reboot, if it went down when running chances are its just stuck no need to start reconfig just reboot router via its software
