I lost the volume control icon from the taskbar. How do I get it back? Thanks.

Start | Settings | Control Panel
"Multimedia". On the "Multimedia Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box that appears, select the "Audio" tab. Now, check "Show volume control on the taskbar" to show the volume icon, or uncheck the box to hide its display. Press "OK" to close the dialog box

The "Show Volume Control on Taskbar" was greyed out and could not be checkmarked. The only way I could get it back was to change the Playback Device and Recording device options from "Any available device" to a specific type.
