Just want advice, I want to make some extra cash, is it OK and legal to buy items off internet at a low price and sell them locally for some profit? will there be any legal issues in this? I wanto sell computer accessories and all genuine items which we don't find locally (if we do then they are wayyyyyy expensive!!). I live in the middle east and we are also a big anti-piracy country but so many things are not available here? I think this way I would be doing a service to the enthusiast people here and also helping myself.

if the stuff you purchase on the internet is legal in your area and you purchase it from a reliable source, then theres nothing wrong with reselling anything.

That is what is called business my friend. As Dan says above.... if it's legal it's fine. ;)

You need to first check locally & find out if you need a licence to sell, licence to import, find out about any import taxes or tarrifs you may need to pay, etc. Also, take into account the shipping fees you'll need to pay when you order from overseas and see if you can still make a profit. If you can, you're a new entrepeneur.

Sell on ebay. Buy in lots, sell your widgets individually=profits. :)

I live in the middle east, and I am working on this for 4 months now. From my studies, I can easily make a profit margin without selling for high up prices locally. Ebay won't be my choice of doing business, local whole sales is a big profit if the retailers can get their supplies delivered to them without even going to look for these items.

e.g. the E6600 Core 2 Duo processor, on newegg.com it is priced $222, the local shops here are selling it for and you won't believe this ripoff, around $600/-

I can provide reasonable prices to people, and also make available more choices for consumers. I get these thoughts maybe because I am majoring in Business Management :)

I asked about this at the Ministry of Industry & Trade here and they told me if I don't open a shop, I don't require a license or registering as a company. And second I asked about this at the airport cargo place and they told me if you order lke apprx 10 boxes then no one would know (taking one processor as one box so it makes a lot of little boxes), but if a bulk is coming in then they would figure out its for business and they would put an import tax on it like 5%. Even with that 5% I can make nice profit margins.

The onlny thing I still need to make sure is the reliability of my shipping services and securing some cash for investing.

Thanks guys!! I think I can be a business man even before I graduate!

If it turns into a business, I'm pretty sure its illegal, although it depends on where its sold.

rivalbro, what is the situation with income tax where you are?
In many western countries, you may not need to register as a business but the profit would still be taxable income.

I did some more research and it turns out getting a license for selling computer accessories isn't hard. So I'm going for that, better safe than sorry.

As many people, I'm sure know, Ebay is a great spot to sell stuff, however its an auction site. The thing about sites like this is that there is buyer protection, create policys, convert country currencys and check for applicable taxes and any other costs.
