I didn't realize how illegal YouTube was until I started searching different terms that were for sure illegal. What I don't understand is why YouTube hasn't been raided by the police yet? like Kazaa and Napster. Although I hear Google is becoming a threat to Microsoft. LimeWire has been on the line of Fire too, according to an original TechTV's Call For Help.

they do the best they can under the law. Unfortunately the users do not cooperate.

They accept public uploads without any checks... and good on 'em.
If the usual "political correct" idiots have their say it might soon be history.
Would you want that? I think not. Loads of other sites I know of do the same. Let's all attack You Tube eh? as it's the biggest.

Get real..... this is the internet.... live with it.

It's the same old thing...some sectors of the business world unable or unwilling to figure out a way to deal positively, and profitably, with new technology.

Somehow I get the feeling that the internet is going to proceed and the ones that can't figure out how to make money with it and through it will get steamrollered as the net motors on. :D

The YouTube business strategy is genius, but they're not the first or only ones to use it. Google, MySpace, eBaum's World, and many other Web 2.0 sites follow the same strategy. It's simple really:
1) Allow user-uploaded content
2) Make money off user's content (via advertising, subscription, etc)

It's not illegal, because the sites themselves don't specifically encourage users to uploaded copyrighted/illegal content or promote it, and every now and then they'll even remove some of it to make it look like they're doing something. But the simple fact is, the vast majority of the content is illegal, and these sites make money off it, but they pretend not to condone it, so they get away with it.

from somewhere on the net
Warner Music, Universal Music and Sony BMG have signed agreements with YouTube to supply some of their content in exchange for licensing fees and a share of associated advertising revenue. :hmm:
