worms 2 doesn't work

I just got a cd with worms on it and installed it on my computer with these specs:

Operating system: Windows XP (home)
Direct X: 9.0c
Motherboard:

Manufacturer: Quanta
Model: 3090
Version 46.11

Oh yeah
it is a Compaq Presario M2000
-which sucks

Anyway the game works fine UNTIL you try to start a match then when it is loading the loader goes about a quater of the way and it stops and i get an error message saying:

'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!'

Worms 2 is also know to have random problems with Windows XP and DirectX 9.0. It works for most, but has various problems for others.

I know it's not a real solution, but you may want to consider Worms World Party. Same graphics (but better quality), as much as I remember all the W2 weapons are in WWP (plus others), more gameplay options, and you can buy it new for less than USD$10 from any computer store's bargain bin. And, it works fine on newer systems.

Thanks, i was thinking if it didn't work that i would just go buy worms forts
but that is annoying
