View Full Version : My wireless card doesnt fit

I just moved into a new apartment, and they provide high speed wireless, so I bought a Linksys 802.11g. The problem is, it seems all 3 available PCI slots are one millimieter out of allingment with the slots in the back, the area where the antenna port would stick out.

My video card fit fine in the AGP slot just above though, so i don't know why this isn't fitting.

I don't even know how to phrase the question, but basicaly how can I make it fit without damaging the pins on the card? I'm tempted to bend the metal framing where the antenna port would stick out, to see if I can get some more space. It was a locally built computer, and this is the first issue I've run into, so has anyone else had this problem, or something similar?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just realized this isn't actually a networking problem, it's my computer being difficult, so if you can move this topic to somewhere more appropriate that would be awesome, or maybe you can offer some insight here anyways.

Either way, I appreciate it!

Ok so I can't locate any networks, we have a router in the next room over though.

It won't locate an access point? Sorry, I've never used wireless before, is there a way I can go about fixing this? It's probably a very common problem that the moderators still have stored under ctrl+v, but I just don't know what to do.

My roomate has been connected for a week, so the router is ok. he's not at home though so I can't ask him

OK. Lets start with some questions, then maybe I can give you the right answer.

What version of windows are you running?
Does the wireless network card show you in the device manager withou a '?' or a '!'?

Did you install the drivers for the network card?

Also, run 'ipconfig/all' in a command window and post the output back here.

Hey guys, I did some research and got it working. I guess I was trying to set up a connection to a wireless router, so I was looking for an access point that wasn't there.

I think that was the problem, but I unistalled everything, re-installed it, and put the card back in, and everything is working fine now.

Thanks alot for your help, I really appreciate it!
