My computer crashed and I had to reload Windows XP operating system and all the other programs.
From original Quicken 2005 disc I reloaded Quicken. Then I restored files from backup external drive.
Problem: When I open Quicken I get the start page as if I was a new user. I go to FILE and OPEN and my data files appear however they will not open or appear on the Quicken screen. I have also tried to open from my C drive but can't. I have also removed Quicken and re-loaded. Same problem.
Question: How can I get the data file to open in Quicken.

Is this a QDF file you are trying to open?
What do you get for an error when you try to open it?
Are you sure it was created with Quicken 2005?
Since you re-installed Quicken did you do an update to Quicken? I'm sure there have been many updates to it since it was released on the CD, it may be that getting them will clear up your problem.

It is a QDF file.
The message: the drive or network connection that the shortcut refers to is unavailable.
It was created with Quicken. When I re-installed Quicke 2005 I installed all the updates.
If I try to open the file from the C drive I get the message that it needs to know the program that created it.

Where on the C drive is the file? Are you sure it is not a short cut you are trying to open?
Have you tried right clicking on the file and selecting open with and then locating the quicken exe to use?

Thanks for the response.
I was restoring from my external drive, the correct page would appear but when I shut down Quicken I could not retrieve it again.
I then tried to restore from my external and before shutting it down I backed up to a thumb drive. When I re-opened Quicken I had the original problem but then I restored from the thumb drive and the problem appears to have been solved.
