Hi, :)

Not sure if this should go under "Windows XP, but anyway, here goes...

We have two computers running XP, connecting via cat 5 UTP through a Draytek DSL modem/router to the internet.

On mine (only), running XP Pro SP2, if left running unattended for several hours, all connection past the router (ie, to the internet) just drops out. No mail, web, ftp or ping past the router.

I can ping the router or bring it up as a web page, but that's as far as I can go.

Meanwhile the other pc (running XP home) has no problems at all...

Both pcs running Zonealarm as a firewall, though the router has a firewall anyway...

Both running AVG antivirus, neither has any virus problems.

Anyone else struck this problem?

thanks and regards,
:)
Michael

My first thought is check for a firmware upgrade for the modem.

Does going to the router's admin web page and restarting th router clear the problem or do you have to cycle power to the router?

Hi, thanks for reply.

Haven't had the need to try that (reboot the router) since my first message. Will try that next time, but can't understand why other pc on same router should still be sailing along just fine...

But updating firmware might be a good idea. Will see if I can do that anyway.

thanks again,
:)
