Did anyone watch this? I saw some of the UK concert, was a bit miffed on realizing I'd missed Genesis, but from the reviews on the 'net, it wasn't that good, meaning the whole concert, with only a few groups that got good reviews. I've watched most of the US concert, and to be honest that one hasn't impressed me too much so far. I thought the idea of the concerts was to take out the "politics" of everything, so why would Melissa Etheridge rant on all about politics...SHEESH. Ah well, there's Bon Jovi and The Police to do their "shows" yet, maybe they'll be worth watching.

I watched some of it but on the Internet that way I could flick round the world and watch the acts I like.

Madonna(I'm not a huge fan) was brilliant and UB40 were too.

I watched some of it. Genesis are not the force they once were. Metallica and the Red Hot Chillies were brilliant, as was Madonna. Never saw anything from the US.. but I bet Bon Jovi and The Police knocked the house down also.

Bon Jovi did, but the Police (to me) wasn't very good at all.

At 3 p.m. EDT on July 7, Live Earth concerts on MSN reached a total of more than 10 million video streams and achieved the most simultaneous viewers of any online concert ever.

Live Earth’s 24 hours of music across 7 continents delivered a worldwide call to action and the solutions necessary to answer that call. Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve the climate crisis. Live Earth concerts took place in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg and Hamburg.

“History is being made today. Millions of people around the world have joined together to fight the climate crisis. The over 10 million streams MSN has delivered so far today represent a milestone in live Internet broadcasting.

We expect to see an even greater number of streams after the concerts are over as people return to watch their favorite performances or enjoy them for the first time if they missed the concerts live,” said Joanne Bradford, corporate vice president and chief media officer of MSN.

On-demand footage of all performances, along with artist interviews, backstage footage, easy searching capabilities for specific songs, artists and more, will be available online from all eight official concerts for the next several weeks at no charge.

I know, let's promote stopping climate change by having concerts all round the world, using up loads of electricity. 'Cos that's a good idea. -_- Like Duran Duran give a crap about climate change....

Actually Tom, I imagine Mr LeBonne is actively encouraging global warming so the tides will rise and he wont run it aground and snap the keel of his yacht, Drum, and capsize it again ,much to his embarrasment!

(As an aside tom, I was at Pembrey race track the day he high sided his ducati and whacked his family jewels on the tank - my how us serious bikers fell about laughing - my cousin Dave was right behind him and nearly wrapped his bike up he was laughing so much!)

Back on topic - I like Acro's argument, we ALL need to act responsibly as individuals, so our collective actions will make a difference.

Who knows. maybe they do now give a care, but it'd be sad world if everyone had your kind of attitude towards this when the whole idea of the concerts was to get folks started into helping the world, just like they did with Live Aid!

1) There is no realy scientific proof that, err, proves that climate change is being caused or being affected by human interference.

2) If people need Metallica to tell them to turn their lights off i don't know what the world has come to.

Just like there's no real scientific proof saying that humans aren't helping towards creating global warming, so that makes your statement a "moot" point.

But anyway as Dammit says your right, let's all go by what you're saying, thus meaning the Live Earth concerts was a complete waste of time, there's nothing that us as humans can do towards helping stop/cut back on global warming.............How utterly PATHETIC!!

Live Earth was a waste of time, Al Gore only did it because he's a failed politician and needs the publicity.

Where's the benefit concert for that global catastrophe?

But at least the one thing we can all agree on, this concert did absolute jack for the environment, other than making whatever (non-)problem there might be even worse.

But at least the one thing we can all agree on, this concert did absolute jack for the environment, other than making whatever (non-)problem there might be even worse. I disagree.

I think it dramatically increased awareness of a potentially catastrophic environmental problem. Whether it's global warming or simply conservation, awareness is a good thing. People all over the world are thinking about conservation in a way that the concerts were intended to make them think. Exactly how much good it did is impossible to determine. I seriously doubt it did harm. The concert was only a PR part of the Live Earth campaign. It did it's job.

Did anyone watch this?I watched some of it. Joss Stone in SA rocked and so did John Mayer. The Police were ok but stiff and not very dynamic for a live show. It's been a long time since they played together and it showed. Still good, especially with John Mayer helping out some. Kanye West grunting along with the Police? Thought that was funny it was so bad. The lack of preparation showed a few times with other acts but that's part of the "live" experience". Overall, excellent.

Obviously you missed it, it was held at Houston's Spacehat Bar And Grill, Elvis headlined it. :p

My back garden August 3rd 1984. Four people and a neighbour's cat turned up, so we all wore tin foil hats (including the cat) and I played the jaws harp (I think i played "shaduppa your face" by joe dolce).

since then, south Wales has been resolutely free from alien invasion.

Don't knock it, it works.

The concert did nothing for "awareness". The scaremongering already took care of that. One has to wonder how many people have to be "aware" of this "situation" before we begin construction of the giant mirrors (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/01/27/nsun127.xml), and what role exactly these Woodstock-wannabees will play in said construction.

Of course it made folks aware, I for one didn't realize that if you've charged up your cell phone and leave the charger still plugged in, it's still working wasting useful energy.

And if everyone on the planet did that, we might save enough electricity to make up for the energy wasted recycling the paper used for the Live Earth tickets!

So you're basically saying that we shouldn't waste our time trying to save energy?

oracle128
July 18th, 2007, 11:10 AM
Nope. Unless you have solar panels, there's still an economic benefit to be had (saving whole dollars a year even!). Assuming, of course, that the action actually saves energy.

Snurfen

It really is quite simple. Consume less energy by making yourself aware of what is a wanton waste and taking appropriate steps.

Cutting the fuel bill is a pleasant side effect.

Thanks dammit, I was going to ask what they are, so googled instead. Apparently some sort of device where you pump hot water onto your roof and it makes it a sunny day or something. I think we should all use them to make it sunny. bugger the leccy bill.

They use UV rays, so they work even on cloudy days (though obviously not as well as sunny days).
