Quick Question: Icons in VISTA!!

Hi everyone

In my Vista Home Premium 32 bit, my icons for text documents (.txt) appear as the same icon for printer! Could anybody please tell me how to reset these icons? I think that once I tried to open a printing configuration file of some sort, with notepad.

What I have done:

Set the association in Default Programs

ANY help would be appreciated...
Thanx

It may just be a matter of rebuilding the iconcache.

Instructions on how to do that in Vista are on this page.

Ok, I did rebuild my icon cache and it doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Please help me, and thanks for actually replying

Here is a screenshot. (remember that the actual icons on the desktop also appear as a printer)

The system is quite new, so I only made a restore point recently (after the icons appeared). I've also tried it, doesn't work. Any other ways?

I have created a new user account, the problem seems to stay there. Also, I just realised the icons for *.BAT files, they also appear as a different printer-related icon.
HELP!

Try this...to make sure the changes you did in File Types actually stuck:
1. Right click on any txt file
2. Go to Open With
3. Left click on "Choose default program"
4. Click once on Notepad to select it
5. Make sure the box at the bottom for "Always use the selected program for this type of file" is checked
6. Click OK

That does essentially the same thing as changing the "Open" options in File Types (associates all txt files with Notepad) only I think it's an easier way.

Ok, tried that, doesn't seem to work. When I open notepad though, the icon (when it is maximized) at the top left corner, is correct, its only the icon for saved .txt files that aren't correct.

Thanks Miz

Try running the System File Checker. Go to Start and type "cmd" without the quotes, then right-click cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator". Once at the Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. You may need your Vista disc handy.
