i have to get a modem that will run linux,any ideas

Not only better performance but you REALLY DO NOT want the hassles of trying to get a crappy winmodem work on any distro of linux.

Rockwell chipset external modems have always done good by me.

LOL hmm oh the countless hours of fooling with modems and my linux boxes :-/ if u mess around enuff and get a winmodem working

I praiz you b/c that was a feat!

ron before ya go dish out some money cause daddy bill cheated ya and didn't give ya a fully functional modem go head over to

External is the way to go if you have the dough...seriously when i used dial up i've had success with 3com (usr) modems; both isa and pci flavor which worked just fine...they are both listed at the sites others listed above.Hope this helps
