Well, it's Friday the 13th here in Australia. Just out of interest - how many people actually believe in the "horrible" things that can go wrong on this day :D

It a superstition that comes from an old rhyme: one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl and four for a boy etc, if you see one maggie on it's own, you're sposed to wave at it and say "Hello Mr magpie, hope you're very well" or something like that. Then you dont get bad luck. Allegedly. I dont think it works.......:hmm:

I help a guy manage a go kart track...
Today while I was working a kid and his mom were out riding. The mom, for whatever reason, came to a full stop... and it wasn't soon after that I heard a loud crash.
Her son had collided with her full speed, and ended up busting his lip on the steering wheel. I saw it, and thought to myself "thats a bit of bad luck", which in turn made me realize it is friday the 13th.
I've never believed in bad things happening on friday the 13th, but I'm sure its easy for anyone who does believe to see something bad happen and immediately assume its because of the date. Never run into anyone that fanatical about it though.

Should have waved at a Magpie.... apparently. :D
Nothing drastic happened in dammit towers.... apart from having a crap tea... which is normal.

Went go-karting, waved at a magpie, crashed into julie. bugger.
There is a strong argument doing the roundds that unlucky dates/times/circumstances etc etc tend to put susceptable peeps on edge, therefore increasing the likelyhood of them being overcautious and therefore more likely to have a mishap.

I don't believe any of that. I worked around hot oil and other dangerous items and nothing happened to anybody in April or July on Friday the 13th. Just as a random fact, it happens next in June 2008 then 3 times in 2009. Btw, does anybody know how this superstition came about? :dizzy:

The only pie we have around here involve not much more than pumpkin, chocolate, cream, and fruit such as apples and cherries, so no sympathy. Besides, the globe has no corners. ;)

Not to be picky, but according to the Bible and tradition, the Last Supper was on a Thursday and the crucifixion was on Friday. ;) Thanks for the info.

Actually, I've heard that Friday the 13th became bad luck because way back when some pope sent out secret orders to all of his troops and they were instructed to start some huge attack on the 13th which also happened to be a friday. Thus it was a very unlucky day for a lot of people and it grew from there.

That's what I thought too....
As if to prove the point, the Bible tells us there were exactly 13 present at the Last Supper. One of the dinner guests — er, disciples — betrayed Jesus Christ, setting the stage for the Crucifixion. Did I mention the Crucifixion took place on a Friday?

I think this may have been the purge of the Knights Templar (but "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" is on and it's a very funny episode - Noel Fielding and Donny tourette guesting) hence too occupied to look up the KT and Cathars :p
