cannot get linux to start

i downloaded Mandriva 32bit on a live cd
when i boot from the disk the boot screen comes up but nothing else happens
suggestions?

Does it give any errors, or just freeze? Do you know whether or not your computers memory might be bad / going bad?

If you have the live CD, does it start when you put it in the CD drive and re-boot? If not you may have a bad ISO burn.
